Yes, you can take more than 1 bag, between my partner and I, we have checked in 4 suitcases and carried on 3 bags as hand luggage, and still not been charged. As long as your check in luggage is under 20 kg for each person. They don't really worry about the weight of hand luggage as long as it fits in the overhead compartment.
