Last time was about 18 months ago (sadly).
I think I paid Made around about 250,000 for round trip from Tuban (Kuta) to Tanalot. It was still more than what he asked for. He usually leaves it up to me, but I try to make sure that I never cheat him.
I think I also paid him about 350,000 for two hour trip (each way) to an ex-pats house where he was invited to stay and have lunch and drinks with us. I taught him how to cook his very first Aussie BBQ. He felt special by being invited. He said that he was happy to come back and pick us up again later on, but he didn't have to, he stayed with us and had a great day. Once again, I think I paid him more than he asked for.
Ask him for what he calls 'Mates Rates' and if you think you have a really good deal, maybe consider slinging him a little bit extra (for him and his beautiful family). Give him a try, he is honest and a perfect gentleman and friend.
