My advice is to stand yur ground and say you will move to another hotel if you dont get what you have booked.
I had an experience quite a few years ago with another hotel where despite us having booked and paid for a higher grade of accommodation they tried to give us one of their standard rooms. It was dingy and down a dark and creepy path and I was with my elderly mother so was not happy about us staying there and nor about being downgraded.
They kept saying there was nothing available and they would try in a couple of days. I had visions of us spending our entire holiday in this room so I said No that we would wait in reception until they found us an alternate room that was suitable. Miraculously we were placed in a fantastic room which was the grade of room that we paid for. They said that we would have to move tomorrow as someone else had booked it but I said we would not move until I saw where we were being moved to and it had to be better or we would stay here. They never asked us to leave.
We went on to stay at that hotel several times more and each time the staff were wonderful but we would not have returned if we had been forced to stay in the original room.
