I have been to Bali many times - never actually stayed at the mandira but visited friends twice in 2 diffrent type rooms. The 1st one was a family on 4 crammed into a room with 4 singles. All i remember is that it wasnt far from reception are and at a guess it would have been their cheapest type room. The second time it was a couple and their room was quite nice and certainly not pokey. I think as long as the hotel is not at a very high capacity you just let them know you are not happy with the first one. A deluxe cottage I would imagine would be like the one we saw - and it was fine. The hotel is in a great location and both lots of people we visited were extremely happy with it. Happy holidays.
