I know what you mean when it comes to booking a room. i have booked a room in Bali and when I have gone back on the day, that room was taken as someone had come a couple of days earlier and wanted that room. A booking means nothing. I have never made a booking from outside Bali as there are so many great hotels to stay in that I have never found it necessary. One of the best value hotels I know of is the Casa Padma hotel on Jl. Padma in Legian. It has been recently renovated and the rooms are huge. Lounge area, bedroom area and bathroom / dressing room area. This for about Rp.400,000 per night. Great pool as well.
