I was particularly worried about Dengue fever and using 'stuff' on our toddler too. We took our 18 month old toddler last June (not sure on how old your child is) and I specifically asked the travel doctor about using MOOV (I took some with me to the consultation). She said that we would have to be constantly applying it (every 2 hours or so), which would not be ideal for a toddler and recommended using tropical strength RID (with 20% DEET). BUT you must apply it sparingly on the skin as you only need a little bit as it will protect a few cms around the area applied (a little bit on his forehead, at the back of his neck, around his wrists and ankles) and dress him in light cotton long sleeve tops and pants and spray these with the RID (on the outside) before you put them on. I dressed him in long sleeved cotton shirts and pants first thing in the morning (before it got too hot) and at dusk/evening (apparently Dengue mozzies are most active in the morning and during daylight) - I sprayed the clothes with RID and applied roll-on sparingly as outlined earlier. I'm very happy to say that he did not get one mosquito bite during our whole trip. Regarding using permethrin, the travel doctor said that this was fine to use, but it only kills the mozzies on contact, so they will die when they land on your clothes, but they will get a bite in before they do, so using repellant is the best - would be good to use on mozzie nets though. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip.
