But Jakarta is just a grossly overcrowded city with nothing much for the tourist other than Mederka Square and Ancol which has a DisneyLand like complex almost on the beach.
Check out your travel agent, or search the web for for a brochure named 'Bali on any budget'.
In there you will find reference to an overland tour of Java which can start in Jakarta and finsh in Bali - or visa versa. Thus, you can spend time in Bali then do the tour, or take a night or two in Jakarta, do the tour and spend whatever time you need in Bali.
From memory, the tour includes all accommodation, air conditioned travel and some meals, and takes in the Mt Batur climb, Malang, Borobudur, Yogyakarta, Bandung and the Puncak, Taman Mini, and Pasar Seni and Ancol in Jakarta. Never done it - because I did it all when I worked there - but these are 'Must-Go' places.
Cheers, Nev
