You can do a day trip to Yougya in a day from Bali (flying) and there should be a number of packages availabe from local tour operators. Yogya has some fabulous attracions including Borrobudor, the Sultans Palace, Parambutan ( spelling ?) temple and others. It will give yu a taste of Java with benefit of local guides and dribers.I haven't been to jakarta but understand Yogya is more relaxed.
