and enjoyed both hotels but if I had to chose over the two it would be the Padma. I stayed in a deluxe chalet and considered the upgrade but to be quite honest could not justify it the additional expense. Padma is a better quality hotel hands down and I loved every minute of it. Kartika is very good but I think overpriced, rooms were adequate but not same quality as Padma but the pool is better than the Padma - it was deeper which I like.
Area around both has good restaurants but again in legian you are closer to places like La Lucciola?/ Ku De Ta as well as many beach bars to watch the sunset. Nice thing about Kartika was that it is actually on the beach or rather does not have a road dividing the resort and I like talking to the beach sellers each day.
The other thing about the Padma was that the spa there was to die for, did not use the Kartika but Mandara spa is the best I have been to in Bali.
