I haved stayed at the Kartika several times along with the Padma.
I would definitely choose the Padma- beach- shopping etc
The breakfast buffets are also 'very on par' with the selection at Kartika, which I have found to be one of the best for choice, apart from Ritz Carlton.
Personally I think the rooms are nicer too.
If the girls budget can accomodate the Garden Club Chalet with extra's, I would maybe go for that ???
But a little undecided if its ideal as a group, as once you have paid, you may feel obliged to stick around in the afternoon when they serve- which could make things tricky for day trips/ shopping and the like....
Though perhaps if there is a few of you- your duty free alcohol may suffice for afternoon drinkies, as that's what you are basically getting along with the extra price tag (+ hors d'ouvres, nibblies, petit fours, etc).
