Amed is beautiful and I strongly suggest you go there at some stage. Just warning you that apart from the main road many hotels are perched on the side of the hills and as such have quite a few stairs. I can suggest a good hotel in Amed but not one which may suit your needs (ie not too many stairs)
From memory there was a little bit more to do in Candi Dasa for people who dont like to snorkel, along with it being a bit flatter. Havnt stayed there, just driven through a did one or two things. This town looked nice though.
Just remember, Candi dasa is a town, while Amed is a series of VERY SMALL villages. Both are very different, but both are a world away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta
