On our recent trip to Bali, we found all 3 of our phones where locked, but we only found that out when we got there. One was on a plan. One was prepaid, even though she has had it for years. And mine is on a direct debit acct that I have had for about 5 yrs. Was furious that I am still locked in after all that time! It is irelevant whether you have global roaming or not.
My advice would be, go to your provider and check before you leave.
