I think practical gifts are more useful. Clothes for the kids, maybe a small toy, nice soaps, shampoo etc for the ladies. Clothes, chess set for the dad? Maybe make a nice hamper in a basket with an assortment of foods (tin foods, sugar, coffee, tea, rice, biscuits etc) My sponsor family always appreciate that as they don't have much money and it's things they then don't have to buy instead of a gift they may not use. I have given them a small photo album too and a frame. When I visit I take photos and give them to the for the album. Many families have no photos of their kids.
