to have the sponsor letter to take into the Indonesian consulate to apply for the social visa. It can take several working days for the consulate to process so leave enough time for that.
You could ring the consulate and get the exact details from them.(make sure you get the name of the person who gives you the info as it is not unheard of to get the wrong/different information depending on who you speak to!)
I don't think it is necessary for the sponsor to write the sponsor letter on company letter head if they don't have it (but use it if they have it) There is a very standard format for such letters which includes all the details of the sponsor such as name, date/place of birth, address, occupation, ID card number. Details of the sponsored person as above but include nationality and passport number. Basically the sponsor states that the person is coming to enjoy the culture of Bali for an extended period and the sponsor will take responsibility for him while he is in Bali. One of the many visa consultant companies could help with the sponsor letter if your friend is unsure. They can also help with the visa extensions if your friend can't do them himself.
