would be bare feet - but that is not possible outside my home.
I dont do closed in shoes HATE them - even going to cold climates I have them off as soon as I get on the plane.
I only ever take open air walking type sandal/thong. Buy more when Im there. My partner wears the mens sandal lightweight type you can get from rivers. Remember synethics can often rub and cause blisters.
If its wet sandals are good in the mud ( unlike thongs ) does not flick up artwork of some kind back up on your clothing. They dry out better too. As mentioned you can have casual - to really lovely dress up types.
Heeled shoes are dangerous as there are so many holes and grate covers they can get stuck in. Not to mention clipping a raised bit of paving - I have already done a big splat before, so Im extra cautous now.
