Interesting figures here from Jakarta Post showing where Garuda business comes from. With Australia/NZ only providing about 4% of total passengers it is no wonder service has been reduced in favour of other growing markets

Garuda planning to reopen flight route to Europe
Nusa Dua, Bali (Antara): National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is planning to reopen its flight route to theEuropean Union, the airline's chief, Emirsyah Satar, said Wednesday.

"However, we have not yet set any date for the resumption of the service to the European Union because we are still engaged in preparations to meet international flight security and safety standards," Satar said on the sidelines of a PATA Travel Mart meeting here.

He said the European Union flight service would mainly be intended for middle-and upper-or business-class passengers.

Europe has banned Indonesian airlines from flying in its airspace following a series of air accidents involving Indonesian airplanes.

According to data, Garuda Indonesia flew six million passengers in the January-August 2007 period, who consisted of 513,892 people from Japan, South Korea and China and 586,972 from other Asian regions.

It also flew 173,756 from the Middle East, 218,146 from Australia and New Zealand and four million domestic passengers.

Last year, it flew a total of six million passengers.(***)
