and was hospitalised in Bali. The only difference was I also had a very high fever. I have been home 2 weeks and have had good days but also many bad days. They originally thought I had appendicitis but stool tests were done in Bali and I was diagnosed with an amoeba parasite. I have been on a very strong course of anti parasite medication as well as a very strong antibiotic and seem to be getting there slowly. Perhaps check which parasites they have tested for as the most common is gardia (excuse spelling) so perhaps they have only tested for that strain. Failing that perhaps get a second opinion.
It appears there seems to be quite a few being struck down due to parasites of late so please take extra precautions as it is a very nasty experience. Having said that however, I religiously use antibacterial wipes etc and it does appear it has come from either unwashed fruit or veg or a food preparer who did not wash their hands.
I hope your son gets better soon as I can definitely sympathise with what he is going through.
