I am yet just a "L" plate in this area but certainly a few weeks ago thoroughly enjoyed the resturants in the area. The area seems to light up at night.
Here is some Villa ideas. I am finding the accom - hotel type peters out at internet special rates at $70US per night. Then its a larger gap until you get into Villa accom.

Villa Lalu
Villa Poppy ( but I think is just 3brm)
The Aston Sun Villas ( have personally seen these -spacous and contemporary)
none of those are up as far as the "Oberoi - laksmana area"
I am a Legian girl - love the budget - mid range restuarants and shopping, spas and everything in this area.
Have a look at Padma Hote, Mandira, Legain Beach Hotel, For less $$ Casa Padma Suites. Also Grand Istan Rama.
