You'll find that the low advertised rates are usually for a minimum number of days. Even if you can get that rate, then you have to add insurance, plus other charges, AND you have to either fill the car up before reaching the airport, or pay their high rates per litre for their 'estimate' of how much fuel you've used.

I rented a car from Wollongong to go to the airport in 2005. The "$50-ish" car ended up costing me around $90-ish from memory. PLUS I had to find someone to take me to Wollongong (about a 30min drive) to pick up the car the afternoon before.

Similar deal on the way home. I hadn't booked one ahead of time to come home, so all the smaller and economy sized cars were gone. I had to get a mid-sized car that cost me around $110 by the time I'd got fuel to fill it up. And again, I had to find someone to follow me into Wollongong the next morning to drop the car at the rental place.
