I had never used an atm in Bali but as I had extended my stay and thought I might need some more money I tried an ATM. Friends were using them all the time, they had a "money passport" card. I withdrew from my normal bank account. Never again, aside from the $4 fee, the exchange rate was terrible, much less than on the street. The most I could withdraw each time was 1,200,000rp (not a lot). As it happened I could have survived without the extra money.
