When I bought my good camera nine years ago at Duty Free I was told that once you used that camera and when coming back into Australia that the camera devalues at 20-25%. You are never told this but I mentioned it to the customs guy and he agreed and we didn't have to pay. I would give them a ring and see if this is still the case.
