Why not learn some indo if you are really serious about persuing this romance, then when you go back dont tell him what you have learnt....then maybe you will hear his friends talking etc and they will certainly spill the beans one way or the other!! (expecting of course that you will not understand what they are saying)
If he is genuine you will have to learn the language anyway so nothing is lost.
It takes alot of time, money and patience to persue a romance with an indo guy. Where you will both live if its successful will open up another quest....as with any intercultural relationship. But many are very successful so just "go for it" with eyes wide open!!!!!
