If this story is true then it is very good news. The people who care about animal welfare are not likely to go soft on any zoo that receives these animals if they are held in poor conditions either, but the first step is to shut down the inadequate facility at Melka.

But in my opinion the real Melka problem is not the zoo animals but the performing dolphins. They are held in miserably cramped conditions and made to perform daily for tourists. They are now also being exploited in a dubious "therapy" program which not only further exploits the animals but raises false hopes among people desperate for cures for themselves or loved ones. This is simply indefensible commercial exploitation of both.
