The Police Department set up a special 24-hour Tourist Police Hotline dealing with Police Corruption which is (0361)224-111. Before you leave save this number in your phone if you intend to drive in Bali.

I read an article about this (see link below) and it saved me a few months back. I was pulled over on a scooter for my front tyre going over the white line at traffic lights in Kuta and the "cop" asked for 500,000Rp to let me go. I called the number and the guy on the other end got my story then asked me to hand the phone to the cop. 2 minutes later I was on my way with an apology...so it works.
