Just recently I have noticed a lot of forumites remarking on the fact that they are having their duty free booze purchases confiscated just prior to boarding, even if the purchase has been made in the "sterelized" area after all customs and immigration formalities have been done. This didn't seem right to me so I have just done a quick search on Google to check what should be going on. The rules in Indonesia, and almost every other country in the world, are nearly identical to ours. In fact the regulations do allow the carriage of duty free booze, purchased airside, onto the aircraft just like they do here in Australia. If anyone is confiscating the goodies I believe thay are actually breaking the law. It has nothing to do with deals between Aus duty free and the airlines or any one else. It is straight theft, if the regulations are being obeyed, and should be challenged. Of course the challenge part is where a bit of difficulty might arise as the last thing you need is an argument just prior to boarding especially with some-one who has the power to stop you boarding if he/she considers you to be too stroppy to travel.

The bottom line is there is obviously a group of folk making a handy dollar or two with the re-cycling of confiscated duty free goods or a very large number of airport/airline staff not trained, or poorly trained, in their own regulations.

Cheers

Maverick
