I suppose that my daughters school could be described as being situated in a bit higher than a "low" socio economic area. At 15 and 45kg and doing sport every day i don't think I have to worry about her for a while!!
I tend to shop at fairly varied places where I live. I had cause to go to what I guess you would describe as a lower socio economic area and I was actually quite shocked at not only the kids but even more so the adults. It is almost as if obesity is genetic, but I guess it is more likely lifestyle and diet within the family unit.
Having said that I saw tonight that due to the high increase in cost (300-400%) of vegies, it is cheaper to buy take away than cook a healthy meal. What chance do we have?
Getting back to Bali, I wonder if the "traditional food" i.e. nasi goreng "rice fried" is any better than nuggets etc.
A lot of the restaurant food is actually prepared in a lot of oil. If the right choice is made a pizza as a baked product could be one of the healthier choices you could make. Have you ever had a "fresh juice (always with sugar water) or scrambled eggs (with full fat cream)
It's a minefield out there!!!
