Last year my daughter bought home several pictures and two of the ceremonial umbrellas. When we went we took a large heavy duty postage tube that was empty and placed the rolled up paintings in this tube and attached the poles for the umbrellas to the outside of this tube. The guy in the shop where we bought the umbrellas cut the poles in half as they were extremley long and the tops of the umbrellas came off and they were packed in the suitcase. We just reassembeled the umbrellas and remounted the paintings when we got home. We didn't have to pay any excess.
