As we travel with surfboards we take towels with us, mainly to take when we are travelling but I agree that if you are only staying in one place you probably don't need to take any. However if you go lets say to Dream Beach for the day I can't imagine that the hotels would be happy for there towels to go, At the MBR you have to sign for them and put your room number.
We always take cash, I have become a little wary about using ATM's with all the fraud around.
