I flew from the U.S. east coast to Los Angeles, then flew Cathay Pacific to Denpasar, changing planes in Hong Kong. There are several other options, and I would probably just go with the best price. Singapore Airlines often has some good package deals which you can find on their website. I would suggest staying as long as possible since the trip itself is so long, and to see other parts of the island by hiring a driver. I have visited Bali with an African-American friend and everyone was friendly and welcoming. It is a wonderful place and you will love it!
