Hello Sophia,
Re: Flights from the US
-I can't help with that question as Jack is Aussie but not "Lightening Jack" :-)
Re: Staying a week, possibly week and half.
- try the week and a half, you won't get bored.
Re: Advice for a first-timer?
- enjoy, relax, chill out, talk to the locals. Do searches in the Archives,on this forum, for subjects that may interest you.
Re: budget place to stay that is in walking distance to the beach, shops and cultural things.
- Bali's culture is everywhere.
- want to shop, WELL, that would not be a problem but learn to barter it's "having fun".
- walk to the beach, Kuta, Tuban, Nusa Dua (more up market), Sanur all close, keep in mind that to get around is cheap and you will have no problem getting "transport".
Re: Also what is recommended for money? U.S. Travelers Check, U.S. Cash, Credit Card....yes they like all and it's easy to get rid of it. I would suggest half travellers cheques and half cash and use hotel safes.
local currency? - You can exchange your US$ when you get there, but also research this forum for info on that.
Re: Your concern is that you being African-American and was wondering how the local climate would response.
- Don't know why African-American is mentioned (maybe you could explain why that would make a difference)but if you are from a moderate climate you may notice the humidity but you won't have to cook, drive do housework etc. so be pampered.
Hope you get there, Bali has beautiful people and it's definately a wonderful place to have whatever type of holiday you like. Watch out for the "loud" Aussie though.
