If you buy from local liquor store then it will have to be packed in your suitcase. BTW Local liquor store is not duty free!!
Also any leftover spirits you wish to bring back must also be in checked luggage. So keep the outer packing. We brought back 2/3 bottle of single Malt packed in the outside pocket of the suitcase without a problem. Was not allowed as carry on and His Nibs had discovered the local white rum with water and lemon so this was leftovers.
For carry on duty free out of Perth you must collect it after clearing customs and imigration.
It can be ordered downstairs and collected at the desk upstairs before boarding. That is if the downstairs shop is open and/or staffed
I tip that very soon other Duty Free shops will have either their own outlet upstairs or stop stocking perfumes, makeup and liquor- it they haven't done so altogether.
If you fly to any destinations with a stopover along the line the duty free as your carryon will not be allowed as carryon out of the stopover port.
Bottles of water/drink etc will also be taken from you.
Fortunately airlines are now handing out bottles of water to passengers for the flight. Singapore is doing this as is Air Mauritius so assume all others will be doing the same.
