Question about duty free alcohol

Hi all i'm a little confused about buying alcohol and perfume from the duty free shops before you go through customs.Can alcohol now only be purchased from upstairs (perth) after you go through the screeing process..If you bring your own from local liquor store will it be confiscated...thanks in advance
