Airport porters

Upon reading the archives I see that airport porters can be very helpful and many people use their services. Great!

I'm sure some of the unfortunate incidents reported are the expection to the porter practice not the rule. But does anyone have any helpful hints on utilizing their skills without incurring difficulties?

Also do we have to pay them in rupiah or is foriegn currency acceptable?
