when we have been watching renovations take place. (And must add my husband is a roofer and takes interest in watching how they work).
I remember being at the Dynasty and they were re-doing the roof of the pool towel hut. There was a very old fellow crouched on top of the roof who spent most of his time watching the activities around the pool area and puffing on his cigarettes, then every now and then he'd tap on a new wooden shingle. After he tapped one on the roof he'd stop then watch the foreigners with interest, and so it went on like this for days and days. It was a very slow progress and 'only in Bali' is all I can say :-).
Another time years ago we were staying at the Jayakarta and they were painting a wooden roof. As it happened we were sitting on our verandah enjoying a drink and there were 2 guys on the roof with their backs faced towards us they had a can of laquer next to them and they had almost finished painting that side of the roof when one of them knocked the can over and it spilt all the laquer everywhere. They jumped up and looked around to see if anyone noticed (they did not see us and we were watching with amusement). Then they grabbed a cloth and wiped it making a terrible mess and that is how it was left. Just to think it was a new paint job and this was the end result.
My husband always hands out a packet of smokes to the workers when he sees them slaving away in the heat.
Agree with Baliku also, as the management and staff are fantastic at the Bali Garden and I'm sure they will do their best not to disrupt the guests. Have to admit that most hotels I've stayed at there has never been warnings of renovations taking place, but there's always something that's being fixed up and it's never anything to make a fuss about.
