You have a valid point Paulo and I have often pondered that same question.
There was an occasion on a flight a very large person sat next me and, without asking lifted the armrest between us and I was left with just about half a seat. Fortuneatly this was the connector to Sydney and I didn't have the same companion next too me on the neext leg.
I also agree with the comments on discrimination so I suppose there really is no right/wrong answer. The thing that does bug me tho, is when a person raises an issue with which the majority seem to disagree with, he gets all sorts of irrational and rude answers.
Paulo did say "food for thought and discussion only", so folks just give him a go.
