We too are having dramas getting to Bali out of NZ. I have posted below regarding going via Thailand. What we are looking at doing is a return trip package deal to Thailand - Bangkok (we have also chosen to include phuket at extra costs, then do a return side trip to Bali. You may have to overnight in Bangkok on the return leg again due to connecting flights. We have noticed that airfares to Bali have increased alot this year so while going via Thailand isnt necessarily cheaper we are getting alot more holiday for our money. This option may not be suitable for people on a limited time frame of a couple of weeks, but as we are usually away for 4 - 5 weeks its a great option for us
