Why not start applying for jobs before you go. Most jobs are not for an immediate start, and most jobs require some kind of obligatory date of resignation notice, so most can't start next day anyway. If they ask why, tell them why. When you go on holiays you'd like to take 2 weeks, not squeeze your relaxation time into one. I think this will show responsibility as well....that your planning your future, and prepared to do the right thing by your employer. Nothing ventured, nothing gained....you never know, you might have a nice new permanent job to come back to.
