That's twenty years! I remember the duck pond in the Monkey Forest Rd and rice paddies everywhere. The MF Rd wasn't paved and sometimes there were great gouges out of it. It wasn't lit at night & we took a torch to Bali.
I liked the way the staff at restaurants would come and sit with you if they weren't busy. I miss that. I remember being in Cafe Nomad and the lights going out & several people producing torches. The light would go off in the UVH some evenings too. Nothing opened till about 10 am and we made the mistake of 'going out for breakfast' one day. Starved.
UVH was brand new, and the service was sloooooow in the restaurant, which was a bit of a worry when you were going on a tour. They had not much idea of bread, so the toast was interesting.
Murni's Restaurant looked like a little shack from the street in those days, though when you went downstairs it still had all the levels.
I'm going to keep thinking of more things now you've got me on this track!
