Thanks guys for all the replies. Wow, what a wealth and depth of Bali experience there is in this one topic, I'm glad I asked the question.
For those Bali virgins that read this and want to see what the old Bali was like. It is still there you just have to look a bit deeper. These days we spend most of our time travelling around the island to the smaller villages and they really are about the same as they were back in 1980.
Anyway, even today, it's a wonderful place and one can ever deny that. Just look at how many people are so passionate about it and who return year after, year after, year !!
