I've been coming to Bali solo over the past 20 years. I love it. People ask me why I keep going back - this is why:
- I feel safe
- it's so casual, that it doesn't matter if I'm reading my book in a restaurant
- you can be as social as you want, most people are only too happy to talk about themselves and their experiences in Bali....the hotel pool is a good place to meet people.
- I've never gone into a bar or nightclub on my own, only when travelling with friends.
- I never tell the locals I'm on my own, as the men try to pick you up! I always invent a husband who I'm meeting, is having a lie down, didn't want to go shopping, etc.
- get a taxi back to your hotel at night - it's cheap & safer. Make sure they start the meter!
- if you don't meet anyone you would like to invite to share the expenses of car hire, etc then I recommend that you book a few tours and you can meet people that way.
- I'm always armed with tips from this forum. I copy & paste shopping tips, favorite restaurants, maps, etc into my own Bali Bible of tried & true places to see, shop & eat.
- You can also continue to ask questions on the forum from a Bali internet cafe - they're everywhere.
- Before you go, try posting an 'Anyone in Bali on .....date who'd like to get together for a drink?'
Have a happy & safe trip!
