when the budget hotels only had fans. None of this airconditioning in the rooms. The first time i ever went in 1983 my mum and dad paid for me and my sis and broo to go and at Kuta Palace which was all airconditioned.
The second time was at Bakungsari hotel, no air con and no hot water. I remember it cost myself and my friend $800 each, airfare with qantas and accom.
I loved how there were no shops with fixed prices, you had to bargain for everything, and yeah, the food was really authentic balinese and beers were 20 cents. heheh. Back then san miguel was pretty popular.
