My first trip was only 1991 but we had fond memories of sitting up on the bar stools and chatting to whomever. Beach bars at sunset were the way to go, back then.
Recall one day an American lady had only just arrived in Bali and was showing us her new sarong which she had been able to buy from a beach seller for us$12. What a winner for the sarong seller.
