I had the same problem with Direct Rooms, took my money but couldn't give me the hotel I wanted. After three attempts at booking 2nd and third choice and wasting one week I cancelled all dealings with them and booked with wotif. It took one week for card to be credited. The amount doesn't show up on your credit card but the amount is blocked until they release it. I think the problem is that they only have so many rooms with a hotel and short notice like my booking wasn't a goer.
