DAY THREE
Today we all woke up without hangovers, which made me realize how bad I did feel yesterday and that I really should have stayed in bed!
Anyway, full breakfast today was great - eggs and bacon etc.
We even got up early enough to wander up and down Jl Raya Seminyak and window shop along the way, before the shops opened. There are some roadworks on the left hand side, heading north, near the Jl Kunti intersection, but no huge hassles or delays with the work.
Also noted that Bodyworks I is currently closed, they are only operating from II and I learnt later from the girls there it is due to lack of business.
Our driver - Made Mangku arrived, complete with iced up esky for cold refreshments at 9.30 and we headed off for another day of shopping.
Haveli
Instead of heading to the shop along Jalan Raya Seminyak, I took the forum tip and headed to Jalan Kunti No.36 to the ‘seconds' shop. This is past Bali Deli, across Jalan Sunset and about 100m on the right hand side. Cash-only store, with less range than in the main shop, but I picked up some fantastic bargains! Napkins, placemats, napkin rings, cushion covers etc etc for less than half the price in the main store. I managed to tick off some Christmas gifts here and went back three times for more. It is closed on Sundays. Thanks for the tip, and yes, I did leave some stock for those of you heading there soon!
Geneva
100 Jalan Raya Kerobokan
I wanted a few little beaded bags and some placemats, so we took my friend here and it was like watching a child in a candy-store...3 hours later and many trolley loads full of goodies, we had finished. 3% extra for using credit card, which is usual and noticed a sign that said Geneva will commence trading on Sundays from 1 Oct - opens around 9.00am (I think). So for those of you wanting to get your Geneva fix in on a Sunday, it will start opening just for you soon!
My best buy was a large round mosaic mirror for the shed loo which cost 37,950 Rp. You just have to search down the dark aisles to find what you are looking for!
Down on the ground floor to the furniture department and we bought two teak pieces, one a small buffet for the dining room for 1,550,000 Rp and then a little chest of drawers in an odd shape for 400,000 Rp. Haven't seen anything like it at home, so happy to add the freight and get it all home.
Bali Asean Haven
116 Jalan Raya Kerobokan
(A few doors south of Geneva, same side of the road)
Our friend wanted a black stone statue, so we wandered down to BAH and we ended up buying one too! The shop extends out the back and they have many Buddha heads, statues, vases and carved handicrafts. We also bought a picture that is made of carved stone with elephants and a big scene on it with lots of villagers, if we seal the surface, the images will stand out more and will look great in the outdoor bbq area. It cost 120,000 Rp. Our black statue is about 1 metre tall of a standing Buddha with her hands in a prayer position which cost 360,000 Rp.
Bamboo Fence Cladding
My friend is doing up her new pool area, and was after some cladding to cover the asbestos fence. Thanks to Claire at Sienna Villas for making a few phone calls and pointing us in the right direction on where to find a place to buy the cladding.
We headed towards the jail- end of Jalan Raya Kerobokan and found BUHARI SHOP at Jl. Raya Kerobokan, Jl Umalas No.1. Made to order - they had a lot of matting and bamboo products.
The cladding cost 200,000 Rp for a 3 metre length x 1.8 metres high. It is described as 'Kere Bambu Lampar' on the invoice.
Martin Ceramic and Pottery
Jalan Raya Kerobokan No. 33
We went here earlier this year and bought some lovely pots for indoors to fill with those sticks.
Our friend bought some of the same design that we have at home. Made to order in many shapes, sizes and colours. Excellent value.
Rudy Art
Jalan Sunset Road, Seminyak
We have bought many items of marble from here and this time was for hand basins for new toilet. We bought two, at 500,000 Rp each - one in grey and another in lovely cream marble.
Rudy Art is such a find for home renovation ideas - they have a large area upstairs with small bowls, vases, coasters, plates etc which I have previously bought back as hand luggage, trying to make the bag appear much lighter than what it was!
Bottle Shops
We usually pick up drinks at Bali Deli along Jalan Kunti or the Liqor Store across the road. Bottles of Bacardi are comparable to home, so we restocked the supplies towards the end of the trip when we ran out of duty free.
Best Wine and Spirit Shop on Jl Gn T Perahu 15D is where we bought some lovely French champagne for 500,000 Rp a bottle for my husban's birthday celebrations later in the week - they have a large wine selection.
Balistones
Jalan Nakula 33, Legian
Our friend wanted a water feature and Felicia is not doing them anymore, so lucky to buy one of the last remaining in stock! That was meant to be.
A lot of white indoor statues here, we didn't need anything, have been many times and all shopped out by this stage.
Bananas
I thoroughly enjoyed having an entire bowl of bananas at the ready, should I feel like a snack or ready to pop into a cocktail. Such a treat, considering I arrived back home to spend $A3.00 on a single banana!
Dinner
After another Suku massage, following the entire day out shopping, we opted for Italian - in a small restaurant opposite the Legian Hotel at the end of Eat Street - called Ecucina Italiana, or something close to that. Great value and not as busy as Trattoria on the main drag in Seminyak. The brushcetta is excellent and I had ravioli, others had lamb and fettuccini bolognase plus a few bintangs and came to about $40 total.
The toll of solid shopping for the past two days meant we were all tucked up in bed by 10.00pm.
