Just came back and had bought some large vases which were packed in seperate box.
Put both case and box on scales came to 38kg. Clerk then started writting bill for the 18kg. Would have come out to $187AUD. The vases only cost me $30 so really wasn't worth it. Particularly seeing that we were there to arrange a container full of stuff.
In the end organised for my local guide to pick up the vases from the airport and load them into the container.
Somebody mentioned paying under the counter for the overweight, this may be why they are now cracking down as they can then get a bit of under the counter money.
Also experienced request for donation from inward customs officer which I thought really sus and then my mate who travelled back a day early was asked for a donation by customs on the way out. What has been anybodies experience in this regard?
By the way can't recommend our guide enough he speaks excellent english and organised transport, checked out our various request independently and then organised driver for when we went. With the driver and the guide cost per day was 400,000 and that is basically driving everywhere from 9:00 am to 6 - 7 pm. His details Muksin Siahaan 081 835 3166 email mks292001 yahoo.com
In the end we will pay him more as he will do a lot of running around organising deliveries etc whilst we returned to Aus.
