My friend went to Bali in March 2006. They went to Denpasar with a friend/guide/driver, whose mother had a stall at Denpasar market. She told me how she had to get very angry and assertive after someone (a new "guide") attached themselves to them. Despite the fact they already had a native Balinese speaker with them. This not-hired new "guide" apparently was quite persistant over a period of time and then wouldn't leave their 16yr old daughter alone. Being touchy and rude my friend reports and insisting they needed a guide.

Did she do the right thing? What would have been the most effective course of action? Since "no thank you" did not work?

She reports this was her only "situation" and the rest of her trip to Bali was absolutely sublime. She said, "you have to go." So you know what? ...We are!!!!!!
