I like to be called Rex and I tell people in shops etc that is my name. I pointedly tell people that I don't like being called sir and I won't use that term to anyone else.
When in Bali, I love the politeness of the people, but don't want to be called boss, mister, papa and particularly not sir.
I grew up in Yorkshire where everyone was called love by shop assistants etc. In other parts of the UK, people would use dear or darling. None of this bothers me, it's a bit like being called mate in Australia and I like that too.
