After 11 JBR's, which are my way of paying back all the Forumites for their terrific JBR's, I thought I would combine my last 3 days into one JBR.Took some Panadine over to Ketut who had a headache and needed to work (massages, hair braiding, nails, etc) to support her two children, Husband's fled the coup. Still on my daily 20cc of raspberry juice and inner-health tablets, not a grumble or 'fluff' to be heard. Thanks to the Adelaide forumite for pointing me to the raspberry juice at Pasadena. I brought the tablets over in a foil bag after removing them from the frig, it worked. In the evening I walked up to ground zero to reflect on the bombing victims and in particular the 88 Aussies named in a wonderful memorial. Thanks for that Bali !! Amazing to stand at the busy intersection on those narrow streets and imagine what it must have been like at the time. A visit to Tanah Lot when the tide was out was inspiring and I took the ceremony on offer at it's base by two priests. OK to drink the water they said, then sprinkled me with holy water and put those grains of rice in the middle of my forehead that I have often admired. A nice experience but where did all those buses and tourists come from. Later I felt something on my brow and brushed off the offending thing. Bugger, I've removed the rice that the priests had given me ! This Banjar does OK out of this attraction for sure, good luck to them ! When back in Kuta over to Mr Charlie to see if he had resolved my business card fiasco. Well he had almost, apart from a transposition of two letters of my email address and an unwanted emblem on the back, they were accepted by me - oh well this is Bali after all, I thanked him. Went back to ground zero again and took some photos, reflected once more and left this sad but inspirational site.Chilli crab night at the Kafe Batan Waru (BGH's restaurant on the street beside the hotel). Selected a live crab, some octopus and prawns then sat back and watched Bali go by on the street. What a meal, it was better than Jimbaran Bay I thought and what a mess I made down the front of my shirt (must take a bib next time !). I won't tell you the cost because it was a special treat to myself and way too much for one person, but I valiantly struggled through it, LOL. Last sad day now and my room cleaner who had got used to me being up reasonably early, popped in with a cursary knock despite me saying tiduk (no!) and saw Papa in all his glory. I don't know who got the biggest surprise but I do know she shot out of the room as I grabbed my under-pants !! Fourteen wonderful days in Bali and my swimming trunks never got out of my bag, let alone wet. Checked in with Garuda at the Paradisa Hotel on Jalan Pantai to get my seat allocation and boarding pass. Had my last Balinese Nasi Goreng at the Bali Colada at the rear of Centro and watched my last glorious sunset. I'll be back next year for sure. Back to the BGH to pay my bill by visa-card and had to explain that my agreement in our emails with Poni was pay 6 get 7. No problems from these wonderful staff members. I thoroughly reccomend The Bali Garden Hotel (Kuta), the Ubud Village Hotel (Ubud) and the Melka Excelsior Hotel (Lovina) for their friendly and clean facilities. By the way I did all the booking by email, agreeing prices and paying on leaving by visa-card with never a problem, apart from 6 for 7 which was soon sorted. Dedut (Helen's driver, now my regular mate) picked me up for the trip to the airport, met Peter and Komang for her first trip abroad (sensibly to Adelaide??) flew to Melbourne then to Adelaide without any hassles. The customs people at Adelaide should lighten up and treat people with less disdain though (still seeing Bali's friendly faces) although the Asian lady who put me through was great, what does that say ? The end of another wonderful holiday in the Island of Smiles, albeit alone and I cannot wait to see our children again, Have a hug and monitor their growing up. When Komang visited our home I told my wife I had two friends coming from Bali. The name Komang mean't nothing to her as she knew her as Diana. I stood Pam with her her back to the front door with instructions not to look, Komang came in and threw her arms around Mama Pam from behind and a wonderful reunion took place. Hey life's for living !!Thank you for your time in reading my epistles.
