I forgot to mention that whilst in Ubud we strolled down toward the monkey forest late in the afternoon. We didn't go into the forest but we could see heaps of monkeys just hanging around the entrance, sitting on the fence and climbing throught the trees. We went up to a restaurant nearby and were told we only had time for one drink bc they closed at 6pm. So we sat ourselves down and the monkeys were starting to patrol the street. Several of the little buggers came into the restaurant and one circled around behind me distracting me attention while his "accomplice" attempted to nick my bag of the sea, cheeky buggers!
6pm and we left only to find that nearly all the shops had shut down and the place looked like a ghost town all of a sudden. I haven't seen such serious lockdown before- chains and such and it soon became apparent why. The monkeys were invading the street and climbing all over the buildings staking their overnight claims. Any other time you are knocking back offers of transport but you can never find a transport guy when you need one immediately!
Anyway a short walk up the hill and we located a suitable getaway vehicle, 20 grand to Ubud Central- a bit steep but so was the hill!
All in all good fun :)
