it is a great tip to put 2 bags together 1 inside the other, works well.
As for duct tape make sure it is NOT in hand luggage or it will be taken off you. I left mine along with a pair of sissors at Denpasar airport check in counter for others to use, when i was walking away i looked back and there was a fight over it hahaha I said to myself "self there is enough for the everyone, why snatch and grab hahaha"
Spudzilla sorry to hear about your disaster, yes qantas is good when it comes to problems like that. I know your situation is not funny but thanks for the laugh I could just pictures the person sitting and the emu hahaha as my daughter would say you have painted a picture with too much information, not needed...... hahaha
